From the Match Committee
Mixed Pairs Championship
The Mixed Pairs Championship has caused us a great deal of scheduling problems this season. It usually draws one of the largest entries in our programme. The original dates in March were not suitable because of date clashes with the Under 8’s Intercentre event where a number of our members were playing. So we changed the dates to Saturday 5 and Sunday 13 May.
Those dates too have proved to be unsuitable because there are many of our men entered in:
Manakau Men’s fours event on 5 and 6 May
and Central Men’s Invitation Fours on 11, 12 and 13 May.
There is also a rep match on Sunday 6 June which rules that day out.
As well as those clashes we now have an additional problem in that the cotula green is now closed so that if we have more than 16 pairs entered (there are 7 entries at this stage) we will have to have two qualifying days.
As a result of all these issues the Match Committee met on Tuesday and decided on these dates:
Qualifying: If there are more than 16 entries there will be two qualifying days
Friday 25 May and Saturday 26 May.
Members who work will play on the Saturday. Entries will close earlier than usual on Saturday 19 May and teams will be contacted and allocated as evenly as possible to the two qualifying days.
Post section for qualifiers will be on Saturday 9 June.
We apologize for all these changes but we need to be fair to as many players as possible. Please make your entries with these new dates in mind.
As a consequence of these changes the Mixed Singles will be played at a later date – probably mid-week.
